PROTOCOL*
ON RENEWAL OF THE TREATY ON COLLECTIVE SECURITY OF MAY 15, 1992

The States Parties to the Treaty on Collective Security (hereinafter referred to as "the Treaty"), which was signed in Tashkent on May 15, 1992 and entered into force on April 20, 1994,

Aware that the Treaty expires on April 20, 1999 under its Article 11;

Proceeding from their willingness to pursue cooperation within the Treaty and ensure its continued effect;

Have agreed as follows:

1. The Treaty shall be renewed for a period of five years.

2. The Treaty will then be automatically prolonged for consecutive five years' periods without prejudice to the provisions of Article 11, Part Two.

3. This Protocol, being an integral part of the Treaty, shall renew the Treaty as from April 21, 1999 and shall enter into force on the date the Depository receives the fifth written notification from the signatory States of the completion of all domestic procedures needed for its entry into force. For the States that will fulfil such procedures later, this Protocol will enter into force on the date of receipt by the Depository of the relevant written notification.


DONE in Moscow this 2nd day of April 1999 in one original copy in the Russian language. The original shall be deposited with the Secretariat of the Collective Security Council, which will send certified copies thereof to the Signatory States.
